Celebration of Literacy
Today Room 20/21 were very excited to have some whanau come and join us after lunch in a celebration of all things literacy.
The afternoon started off with some silent reading of a chosen book and the chance to do some spelling practice on our chromebooks with the 'Spell-Write online' learning tool.
Next, Rm20/21 came together where Mrs Roach introduced a easy and interactive video which showed how to create a fun and simple bookmark. As there had been lots of reading happening this year and during literacy week Mr Makris and Mrs Roach had noticed some people were beginning to turn the corners of their pages to mark where they had read.
All together everyone viewed the video while Mr Makris modelled his fine listening and paper folding skills. Each student was then able to get their chromebook and view the video which was sent in an email and begin creating their bookmark.

Room 21 action shots- Flaxmere Water World Swimming lessons
Last week the whole learning community of Heretaunga RoaRoa Haumako had the privilege of receiving individual class swimming lessons. Each class was split into three ability groups and received expert coaching by trained swimming instructors. Having swam during term 1 this was fantastic to see huge improvements in all students confidence and ability in the water rise.
Here are some action shots.
